Sunday Six - a snippet from the concubine!Shen Wei fic

I realized I haven't posted a snippet from this one for awhile, so here's a bit from the less-angsty fic.

Shen Wei takes a seat on a bench in one corner of the room. There’s no telling when the Crown Prince will come by, so he uses the time to focus on his breathing and steady his nerves. This is a little different than his usual missions but it’s well within his abilities to complete. Certainly he’s a better candidate for this than his brother, whose flair for the dramatic would get him into trouble from the outset. His insistence that everyone, including his own twin brother, call him only by his self-proclaimed title of Ye Zun for the duration of the war is evidence enough of that.

Some time later, a gentle knock against wood brings him out of his reverie. He can see three shadows through the screens on the doors to the guest pavilion that they’re waiting in. One of those is one of the Empress’ ladies, who announces softly, “Empress Shen, the Crown Prince Zhao Yunlan is here.”

Oops! It's so difficult at times, having Shen Xi and Shen Wei share surnames.

Yes, yes it is. But you know what? That also means that the two people Zhao Yunlan loves the most in life have the same surnames.

I now want to see Zhao Xinci's reaction when Zhao Yunlan manifests a Dixing power... (Personality-wise, it'd likely be supreme insight, clairvoyance, telepathy, or mind control. But if we want to go way out the left field ... tentacles? Teleportation? Ability to turn every neatly laid out thing into a mess?)

ETA: I have an even more hilarious idea! We never hear Ye Zun's name, so it could maybe have been something similar to "Shen Xi", and after death, he transmigrates into a girl's body and ends up married to Zhao Xinci, raising Zhao Yunlan. While this idea has little merit other than its shock value, one of those merits is that it'd make Zhao Xinci very, very upset.

Any one of those powers would be amazing for him (well, the tentacles one is harder to work with but do-able.

The Ye Zun idea certainly would be a shocking crackfic and lol, it definitely would make Zhao Xinci very upset! I can't imagine it going well for ZYL, though.

Zhao Yunlan would definitely need a drink after discovering that actually, the evil villain was his mom and he's been fucking his uncle...
